I did tons of research on foods and watched loads of documetaries.
The first step was we joined a local farm coop that sells locally grown organic foods that are delivered to our door on a weekly basis. Its not cheap but I dont have to pay for all if the medications anymore so i actually save money. I also found a local farm that has drop points that we go to and pick up our meats (no beef for me though). This way i know thet are not fed gmo corn. There is also a Big Bear near my house that sells alot if good stuff too. I tend to buy alot of organic fruit and vegetable drinks there because a press is just too much work.
My diet consists of 70-80 percent fruits and vegatables and 20-30 meats. All freshly prepared with organic seasoning. To sweeten things i use honey or maple syrup. Any sugar i use is organic sugar from pure cane.
I tend to stay away from the big corporations because they can be deceptive with "all natural" labels. Arsenic is all natural but i dont want to eat that!
I dont drink bottled water because there is no regulation on it. I have an expensive filter on my kitchen sink on the cold side.
Also watch your cookware. Do not use teflon pans it scrapes off and you ingest it. Try cast iron or stainless.
1. I am looking into Co-ops in my neighborhood, but cost is a major factor. DS has autism, and although high functioning, we spend a ton for his therapies and that does not leave us with much cash at hand. But I agree with your point, we should try to stretch green bills.
We have gone almost vegetarians. No red meat, chicken at a times, from TJ and salmon from The Whole Foods.
2. Water - I live in a rental, so don't have much options for modifications, hence using Brita and ALWAYS looking into better options. I would like to know which filter do you use.
3. Cookware - The stuff about
teflon, I knew since I was a little kid. My dad has been always against teflon (because its aluminium underneath). We are changing all cookware to cast iron and stainless steel (actually, even stainless steel is not OK. Some moms in Autism community got together and they did a study with some industrial grade equipments, which cookware leach what kind of minerals. It turns out depending on the brand, stainless steel leaches a lot of Lead... I do not have more details than this.)

The next step was to remove it from my hygene. I dont use soap or shampooes with sodium laurel sulfate. I buy mostly dr bronners soaps or vermont soap works. My toothpaste has no toxic flouride in it. Toms of main makes a good paste. My deodorants are non toxic too. No more heavy metals. Lotions and skin care products are absorbed too, so stay away from parabins. I make my own laundry soap from dr bronners soap, washing soda and borax.
I have been looking into it too. Soap nuts was my first preference for my laundry needs, but never went forward for wife acceptability factor. A question about
Dr. Bonners and Vermont Soaps, the stuff is expensive, so if you buy in bulk, does it have any expiry or something? (May be a stupid question, but good to know if it does.)
@Peety,
I see that you are an attorney so you must be in such situations lot more than I used to, but when presented with such circumstances, I always settled on something that is least trouble maker. When asked why, I would simply say, I have a weak tummy. Unless the person is nosy, usually nobody bothers to go further.
@Stealth,
Thanks for the link.
Thanks again.
