There was a user here who lost her hearing after years of aspartame use. I don't think some of these substances have been studied well enough to warrant constant use. Manufacturers will be more than happy to include them in their drinks if it lines their pockets with $$$, and safety does not seem to be a chief concern for them.
I tend to tread on the side of caution and use natural sweeteners in moderation - honey and maple syrup (grade b) are two great choices. The SCD diet does permit honey and it has anti-viral/anti-fungal properties. Black strap molasses is also good for those with mineral deficiencies.
Carbs are important for musocal and tear duct function as long as they are from the right sources - potatoes, rice, properly prepared legumes/grains are some great sources of nutrition IMO. I encourage you to watch
this safe starches debate. I went very low carb once and found it made things worse. My health, energy improved significantly after listening to my cravings and eating more of the foods I needed.
