I wish they would do studies to find out for once and for all which came first: the inflammation or the dysbiosis??!!!
I think a really interesting study would be on long time married couples. One group where one had UC and one where they were both healthy. I bet the healthy couples would have a very similar gut make up. Really interesting to see if the UC couple did. Parents and children that hadn't left home would be interesting too.
I am starting to really think the odds are that UC is causing the dysbiosis but who knows. It could be that both inflammation and dysbiosis are caused by your haywire immune system. They have to map the gut as to species not just phylum, figure out the species that are important and necessary, decide on healthy population ranges,,,,,. I was really interested in these gut tests offered but starting to think the results aren't useful information. The connection between stress(and other mental issues) and autoimmune disease may not be causation but that the mental problems are an autoimmune disease
My new unscientific theory is fermented foods and probiotics are simply giving your nutso immune system cannon fodder.
