Just wondered if anyone takes or has taken this probiotic.

I was told that it is good for diarrhoea and following a bout of d have taken it for the last week. For the last two days I have only had two bms a day which were formed. Just worried now that it is going to cause constipation. Wouldn't it be good if this was the way forward.

S. boulaardi, is a great probiotic.

What's your diet like/ And what other things are you doing?

Hi Martha, it's good to take those for a month or two to keep the D at bay. I've found they help to suppress a flare but they're not for keeping you in symptomatic remission.

It's a probiotic yeast that the good bacteria can feast on. It's also been found to help regulate water in the colon during diarrhea, which is why boulardii is used to treat travellers diarrhea.

I notice that my sig seems to disappear at times then reappear.

My diet todate has not been that good if I am honest. Only had 5 inches of rectal inflammation and just carried on eating that same old things. I also took folic acid, calcium and vit D, Turmeric, zinc and multivit.

Eight weeks ago my colonoscopy showed inflammation in the distal sigmoid. Started Salofalk enemas and they seem to be helping as I have had no blood for about three weeks.

I stopped all my supplements and am now restarting them as I didn't know what was helping and what wasn't. So now I am taking multi vit, probiotics and calcium (de to taking steroids).
My GI told me to go gluten free which I have for the last two weeks. I do know certain foods don't agree with me. Salads are not good as they give me the runs.

I had a bout of gastroenteritis last week that's why I started the s boulardii. Even though I have no blood I was still having 6 bms with some urgency in the first hour and a half of waking up until two days ago. I bought some L Glutamine but it still sits in the cupboard because I was a bit scared to take it.
I am worried that all I am doing is causing constipation and therefore masking the symptoms.
Was going to reintroduce the supplements one at a time. There are so many things people take that I don't know what is good or what is bad.

Sorry for rabbiting on so much. Must admit it is nice only going twice a day.

Just a warning that what works in one might not work in another. I found a lot of good info on the SB and bought some. I had a very severe UC reaction to it immediately and only took one dose. It took me three days to recover from that one dose. Later on I found out I was histamine intolerant and since SB is a yeast and yeasts are high in histamines, it through me for a real loop. Many take it successfully though.

It has helped me with no adverse symptoms. But it is different for everyone. I can not tolerate VSL3!

I do fine with renew life's SB but florastor is like a colonoscopy prep for me. I took it for three days and had to stop because i was up to 20x per day instead of 6-7x. It was terrible. I wanted to give the bottle to someone i hated but then realized im not that mean.

Luckily, after a few days, maybe 3, my gut was back to 6-7x again. It doesnt stay in ur system if u stop taking it and for that, i am forever grateful.

Just to clarify, it was the Florastor I took which also did me in. I'm not really sure what the difference is but I believe the capsules I took with the Florastor had lactose in them. But, I don't have a problem with lactose. I believe most people who take florastor take the packets, which don't have lactose in, I believe. In my case I believe it was the yeast. Not sure why bananagirl would have a problem with Florastor and not have a problem with SB. Does the SB have an additional ingredient in it?

Any side affects? Such a excessive gas?

It's a good idea to try one supplement at a time to see what's really helping.
Have you tried slippery elm powder? I swear by it.
Others like psyliium powder.
