Fatherof3boys, who is the doctor in San Francisco that does IVIG for UC? I am in SF and would like to consider it. Do you think if your doctor allows it, it will be covered by insurance since it is super expensive?

ks1905 - Is the Vanderbuilt IVIG treatments a clinical trial?

I read a case study about IVIG for UC from the University of California San Francisco at Mt. Zion. I will try to find it again and post.

IVIG has been a life saver for my wife. She has not developed any other diseases. She began using it 4 years ago.

Here is the link. Dr. Katherine Gundling is in the Allergy/Immunology Dept. at UCSF Mt. Zion Medical Ctr.
I wish our GI would call to talk to her. Our GI mentioned Mt. Zion, so that's why I looked it up.
We live on the east coast...

It says crohn's, but I believe I read both CD and UC.

It was extremely well done, I had to listen to it 3 or 4 times and then I bookmarked it. It was very moving.

I like how you mentioned "everyone who is dealing with an IBD" which you can really see by listen to her husband going on this journey with her.

I went to Cleveland Clinic about 3 years ago and was seen by Dr. Bo Shen for severe UC that was no longer responding to Remicade. Among other things...he suggested that I consider IVIG prior to going down the route of surgery. My local GI doc said it was expensive and experimental and I ended up on Imuran (which worked). Dr Shen may have been doing clinical studies with IVIG
