Curcumin C3 supplement is a keeper

I'm almost a month into taking Curcumin capsules (Viva Labs) 500 mg, taking 2 caps (1000 mg) 3 times a day, for a total of 3000 mg daily. This supp. also has pepper in it since studies show that enhances the curcumin/turmeric. [note: I started with lower mg. amount to begin with]

So many supplements get rejected by my cranky gut but this has been smooth sailing. Nothing miraculous happened but my gut seems less cranky, fewer food intolerances and Bristol 4 poop most days. Since my supply ($25 for 20 days worth) is almost out a re-order is in. I waited on reporting this because things frequently go badly for me with supplements, no matter how great they work for other people.

Thanks is due to someone here (babeinthewoods/Iamcurious maybe?) who said there were research papers supporting that more people stayed in remission with curcumin combined with their mesalamine Rx meds.

3000 mg is what I thought the therapeutic dose is so that's what I am taking…for now. Compared to other less effective treatments it's not so expensive. VSL#3 probiotic is yikes more expensive but it is always in my fridge (and I should use it more). $25 for 20 days of happier gut is worth it for me and all the top curcurmin mfr.'s seem to charge the same.

The thought of filling my own capsules with organic turmeric with a little pepper is not appealing to save a few dollars. I try to buy the highest quality supplements because my gut hates fillers and fake ingredients.

I am allergic to 5-ASAs so I need to find something to maintain remission. Monitoring my diet is my mainstay along with probiotics but sometimes symptoms will come out of nowhere, or if I eat something bad.

I get severe abdominal pain along with my UC symptoms. DGL helps with that, it also helps when I get GERD. But to knock out the flare that is approaching years ago I read about curcumin working as well as 5-ASAs. It does for me. Same with boswellia. I like to take them together because they seem to be synergistic with each other.

But don't try boswellia with curcumin because I know how much you cannot tolerate supplements. I should probably take curcumin/boswellia every day but I know that I cannot trust myself. I cannot stand prosperity. As soon as I feel normal for any length of time I will start indulging in my verboten foods again. By taking curcumin only “as needed” then I get immediate feedback when I eat something my gut doesn't like.

DMC - you could just get curcumin powder and mix in with smoothies, though you would have to enhance bio availability by adding in fat and a pepper. I find it is cheaper than buying supplements.

Thanks Old Mike, it was your thread thread that started me trying curcurmin/turmeric.
I appreciate all the feedback, both negative and positive and lukewarm that posters gave.

Added note: the first week or so my pee smelled acrid and looked yellower than normal. Now it's back to normal. I had no other side effects from 3 gm (3,000 mg) Curcumin/Turmeric pills. I'm continuing to take it but will report if stopping for any reason.

IamCurious- no I won't add Boswellia because if it ain't broke I don't fix it. Tried boswellia a long while back but quit for some reason. I am the same way with feeling good lol, and go overboard with non-tolerated foods. My brain and gut have epic battles sometimes and the gut loses until it acts up and/or I come to my senses. Oh Easter chocolates please leave me alone.

I generally like Thorne's supplements but this one has another ingredient in addition to Curcumin. I'll stick with a single-ingredient supplement because that's the ingredient that research says works.

BCM-95 (2nd link) does not have black pepper which makes the curcumin more bio-available. Perhaps it's better, but until either one of those supplements has 3rd party research to say it's a better choice I'll stick with Curcumin/pepper. Cheaper and has research backing it.

I've tried Meriva's curcumin phytosome, BCM-95 as well as curcumin C3. Of these Meriva's curcumin did not really helped me at all. BCM-95 was okay but the best working for me is curcumin c3 so that's the one I keep taking. Perhaps it does matter for ulcerative colitis that curcumin does not get absorbed fully in the small intestine but gets through to the large intestine.
