Hello everyone!

I am planning our next family vacation and am looking at Bali as our destination. I have been on Imuran since last year and it is working well for me. I have heard that one of the side effects is skin sensitivity especially in the sun. I am from the UK so the sun does not make a regular appearance anyway!

I have never got sunburn as I have asian skin and so I've always been lucky to get a nice tan in the sun with no burning. I love to sunbathe on holiday. Have any of you experiences increased skin sensitivity whilst on aza or developed anything more serious? I'm hoping to carry on as normal but will use a very high factor suncream whilst there.

I definitely find that I burn much faster. The burning sensation that would usually come after prolonged exposure comes almost immediately. Sun block sorts it out though.

Hi - I'm from UK too ... Pastie pale as they come. I now live in a far sunnier country and no issues. High factor sun block and I don't actively sunbath tbf but out and about in the sun has been fine.

I've been on it since 2012 and still go to the pool/beach/outside in general every weekend from mid-Feb to Halloween and I've not noticed any effect. It was something I was really concerned about when I started taking it due to my typical summer activities. I'm in the south/east US. Our summers here have gotten milder and shorter ever year for about the last five to six years though. :(

Ive been on it since 2011. I havent noticed any sensitivity to the sun and im a tanning worshiper! Stopped wearing sun screen about 8 years ago.

I wouldnt even be worries about the sensitivity, Id be worried about the increase in melanoma risk when on azathioprine. Do everything you can to limit sun exposure for that reason.

Never noticed increase in sensitivity. I don't over expose myself all day with it but I welcome it in the spring. Seems to be great mood lifter along with natural D you get out of it. That being said I am off the stuff now.
