Is it that when the rest of the colon is inflamed, it wants to get everything out ASAP, but when its just the rectum, the signals get mixed up and you end up with constipation?Maybe not that simple. I can only relate my own history which was
1) Colon wanted everything out all the time (worst of the flare), constipated only sometimes.
2) Healing using Rx meds and diet mod. symptoms were up and down. Constipated when too much fiber eaten but urgent D when other foods eaten (chocolate, milk products, caffeine tea and coffee, etc.
3) Mostly healed no D, no C if low fiber diet adhered to, last morning BM had to be helped with suppository (unless enema used the night before). 95% remission IMO
Yes the rectum can send signals like "that hurts, don't send that through" or in the case of too much fiber "I cannot handle this".
My diet has helped tremendously to allow my colon to heal but the rectum needed extra help, until healed enough and doesn't now (need extra help).
