OT-ish: gallbladder surgery advice please

I was recently very surprised to learn that the pain I thought was from chronic indigestion and various muscle pains was instead related to gallstones. (This is just another in series of old lady issues I've been acquiring lately which makes me angry enough to hit the punching bag again except I can't anymore because of the old lady arthritis.) ;)

I know from reading the archives that lots of non-old lady colitis sufferers have had their gallbladders out in what is usually described as an easy to withstand procedure that doesn't very often worsen their colitis symptoms and that they often feel better after their gallbladders are gone!!

What I was wondering is how long the actual recovery was. I am going on vacation July 17 which includes a road trip of 1500 each way, lots of physical activity and two weeks in places with 4-8 people and never more than one bathroom.

Not a very important question I know, but any ideas for me? Should I put up with some discomfort and schedule surgery after I get back from vacation or should I do it right away and have three or four weeks recovery. I am not flaring currently but have ongoing IBS-d issues and will be starting on reglan (or similar) in a few weeks for slow stomach contractions/peristalsis so that muddies the water a little more.

Both my mom and oe of my half sisters had their gallbladders removed and their recovery time differed so it likely just depends on each person for how long it'll take...my half sister has IBS-C and after the surgery it made her IBS somewhat worse but she still managed her IBS okay.

Hopefully you'll recover quickly with yours and it won't interfere with your upcoming trip in July!!!

A great hairdresser I had decades ago told me "always expect the worst so you're prepared mentally for what ever the situation is and if it turns out to be not so bad after all then that's a bonus." I should have listened to some of her other great advice she gave too...some of her experiences ended up being some of mine as well and I regret not listening to her great advice (she gave me better advice than my own mother ever did lol).

My gall bladder had to come out way before my UC dx. So I was in good shape health wise at the time. I had it out laparoscopic same day surgery and I was back to work in a week.
