Hmmm, am I missing something? Did they come up with a new med that's inside that capsule set to detonate inside our colon (boy that sounds harsh eh but many times I've wished my colon to just blow up and be done already lol) or do they put the regular meds being used now in the capsule? When it mentioned this helping people with crohn's or IBS I got a little stumped.

Ah, never mind, I was able to read the article about this and understand it now...it would be great to get my Humira this way rather than doing the injections myself, cuz I really hate doing them, especially since although it's put my IBD in remission my IBS is still fairly active and I feel like I'm giving myself needles but still not feeling 100% and I know it's put my CD in remission but it's just depressing injecting yourself and still having similar symptoms (with having active IBS) with my bowels.

I've always wondered why we just can't take mesalamine enemas and suppositories constantly, since they are topical. Use them all day long for several days or weeks, like a "bomb". I also wonder why we can't take more than one oral mesalamine. Since they dissolve in different parts of the colon, why can't we take Asacol (or whatever) and Pentasa (or whatever) both at the same time to get coverage throughout the colon instead of just one basic area?

Theres a reason the max dose of 5ASAs is 4.8 grams. Im not sure what it is since the papers they would have discovered that in are probably pretty darn old, but there is a reason.

Yeah, some small part is systemic and can cause some issues. BUT many take oral 4.8 plus rectal mesalamines too. This makes me wonder if the mesalamine max dose is more connected to oral rather than anything to do with rectal. Patients taking rectal mesalamines retain them for many different time frames. Is there really much differnce in a patient retaining a rectal med for eight hours or patient #2 retaining a rectal med for 4 hours and then immediately doing another rectal med of the same dosage for another 4 hours (of course there would still be some residual left over from the first time)?

Also, let's say there is that 4.8 gram limit for just oral mesalamine. Why couldn't a patient take 2.4 grams each of two different mesalamines to get more coverage throughout the tract instead of all 4.8 grams all dissolving in roughly the same location? Let's ignore the fact that some insurances might not cover two different mesalamines at the same time.
