So after 4 weeks of no symptoms; the very minor specks of bright but faint red blood returned today along with a little bit of mucus. I don't have diarrhoea but I am sore. It could be my 3rd degree hemmies but I doubt it very much; it has to be inflammation.

What is scaring me this time is that I am at my maximum medication 4.5g Pentasa and 500mg Asacol suppository at night - that's the most I have been on in 8 years of the disease.

Anybody got any advice on how I would get it back under control? Shall I just increase suppository? Is there a rectal steroid I could take (never taken steroids before) that is gentle and easily withdrawn later? Or better suppository? I am in UK.

I will now also go through with the Flexi Sig on Tuesday.

The oral mesalamine gets the top part and the suppository gets the bottom part but you need to reach the middle part with an enema. So, I suggest adding a mesalamine enema to the equation. There are rectal steroids but I would try the mesalamine enema first.

The enema would do both the lower and mid part though right? Any suggestions?

Yes enemas constantly reach the rectum and sigmoid colon and deliver up to 4 grams of melamine. Much more potent stuff than your suppository which coats only the rectum with 0.5 grams. Infact, x-rays have shown enemas to reach up to the splenic flexure (up to where the large intestine starts to go horizontally across your abdomen).

Steroids may help in either suppository or enema form.

I think I need a Mesalasine Enema; so will do flexi-sig and if they find inflammation then go on the Enema. Thanks guys. At least it keeps is Mesalazine.

You have UC or CD? Is it throughout or limited to where?

If your inflammation is limited, I don't see why you need to be on that high of an oral dosage.

Definitely get on the enemas...In UK there is Asacol foam which comes in 1g dosage. Start there. Salofalk comes in 2g and 4g. Pentasa is a larger volume of liquid and comes in 1g, 2g and 4g if I remember correctly.

You have many options. Yes, steroids come in liquid, foam and suppositories.

I have CD.

Small right sided patch and left sided Proctitis. Which is what causes my bleeding and mucus.
