I was recently put on a low dosage of prednisone to help with a flare and to assist in the healing of a fissure. I started out 20mg for one week then dropped to 15mg for one week and then 10 until this past week 5. Yesterday was my final pill. I woke up today feeling fine. about 3 or 4 pm I became very irritable, my head was pounding and I could barely keep my eyes open. I'm hungry but nauseated at the same time. Could these be side effects of coming off the pred? I didn't think it would be because my dosage was so low but I feel awful and can't figure out why. Coincidence maybe??

its possible, but it was a very short taper, so maybe coincidence too.

I have been tapering off an 80 mg a day, lowering it by 10 each week. Going and coming off I had and have wicked mood swings, irritable, appetite is ridiculous (crazy fake hungry) and very fatigued. Prednisone is a *****.

As DB said, because you have a very short taper, it could be coincidental, but some mild effects could still occur.

Thank you guys, I went to bed very early last night I got a lot of rest. I feel okay so far today. I'm hoping as the day goes on things don't worsen.

I feel the exact same way when I taper down on prednisone. It sucks!

Our son just started his bazillionenth course of preds following his colonoscopy last week. Presently in a flare that we can't arrest and finding that remicade was a swing and a miss for him. Trying to bridge him to his first entyvio infusion. For the past two days he is suffering from a serious case of the munchies accompanied by light nausea. First time for that combo. Also found out that preds are affecting negatively his adrenal glands, which causes his bp to drop. Cortisol test showed that his adrenals need to recover, so we need to wean him from the steroids. A couple of UC-ers we follow both said that a slow weaning helped them--10mg, 5mg, 2.5mg, 2.5mg every other day--each for a pretty extended time. Extension went beyond doc's instructions. 60mg will usually takes us four weeks to dial back to 0--talking to doc today to discuss a slower weaning.
