So I recently had my coloectomy a Month ago and am ready to start a new life with a soon to come Jpouch, but one thing is kind of worrying me. When is this stupid prednisone moon face gonna go away? I'm currently a freshman in Highschool, and I've been doing Homeschool since the beginning of the year, but I'm going to public school next semester in January. I've been off prednisone for exactly a month now and with just a month and a half left to go, I'm starting to wonder if my face will go away by the time school starts. I also work out on a regular basis (just jogging and stuff about
an hour a day. I recently got cleared to work out) and I'm wondering if that'll help lose it faster? I consider myself a fairly good looking guy but this pred makes me look like a pumpkin. Lol. Plus highschool is very judgmental and a little cruel sometimes. Any suggestions on how I can make it go away faster? I'm seeing slight changes & lost 5 of the 15 pounds I've gained but I'm not sure this is gonna be enough come January. I know this is a very minor problem compared to some things but it would be nice to know haha.

It can take different amounts of time but generally people take longer to lose moon face when they were on high doses or for a long time.
Limiting sodium and sugar intake will help and make sure to drink plenty of water.
It will fall away. I stopped steroids in August and while I have not lost all of my weight my face is looking so much better. My pred acne is basically gone as well.
Good luck with starting school and have a speedy recovery.

Yea, that's one of the problems I've had. I've been on a low dose of prednisone for about
3 years, no moonface, but I recently had a bad flare over the summer and was on 60 for basically a month. Thank you!

Wow I'm sorry you had to take so much pred. The stuff is awful. I would suspect you will see improvement soon but I can't make guarantees.
Have you had your bone density scanned?

I feel your pain. I was on 80mg of Pred for a while there-finally started tapering down. I had really bad moonface and pred acne (still have the acne :/). Mine is finally starting to go down-it took about
a few weeks for it to be noticeable. As others have said, keep your sugar and sodium to a minimum. Drink plenty of water. You said you try to stay fit-that is good. I don't know if it helped, but after I was done working out at the gym I always spent a few minutes in the sauna/steam room.
Overall, you will just have to ride it out. I do believe that by the time school starts you should see a noticeable difference if it isn't completely gone.

At least you're a good looking moon-face
Nothing else to add to all the good suggestions above.
Hang in there - it will get better !

You have to stay well hydrated with an ostomy. It took a lot of begging for my surgeon to write me a script
for Water-pill (Laxis) but they can help a little with the moon face but they can make you become dehydrated quickly.
I was on a high dose of predisone for 4 months before my colectomy. The good thing is that it goes down a little bit each day.
Also you need to watch for steroid withdrawal. It hit me hard after my colectomy and I had to go back on some Pred for a week to stop it. The withdrawal was brutal.
