What to do after antibiotics?

Normally I tolerate antibiotics but this time Metronidazole (Flagyl) started making me feel unwell and giving me tingles on Day 5 - I was on 400mg 3x a day. I then took 1 a day for 2 days and then stopped. I didn't get D or anything; just darker stools and frequency went up from 2 a day to 4.

I can't seem to shake it all off now, taking VSL3 in double doses, Manuka Honey, and Yoghurt to recover.

Anyone else know how long this will last? Any advice on recovering after antibiotics?

Take lots of probiotics to combat side effects
Not only does Flagel give me diahrrea but I get the itchy hives too

You could try other probiotics such as Culturelle or Reuteri if they are compatible with you. And you could also try a food diary. Some of us find that certain foods cause problems even though we continue taking our meds.

Take both probiotics AND prebiotics. For me personally, I have to be careful loading up on probiotics after antibiotics. VSL never bothers me unless it is after a round of antibiotics. Maybe because the gut flora is just wiped out and you are re-colonizing everything? Not sure, but I would go easy.
