Remicade is a strong immunosuppressive medication meant for patients that don't respond to lesser medications. It's usually the third teir of medications, tried only after the first two teirs are tried and failed.
Standard practice is to first try anti-inflammatory medications (asacol, pentasa, lialda, pentasa) they're safe and are well tolerated by most. Next is immunomodulators (Imuran, 6mp, aza). Third is biologics (remicade, humira, simponi).
If you had severe ulcerative colitis through your entire large intestine (15+ bms a day), or were hospitalized, or not responding to steroids then I'd see jumping up to biologics, as they work fast.
Really questioning it in your case...
Do both the bIologics as well as the immunomodulators like 6mp also work by suppressing the immune system? Is it a matter of degree?
