Question for Women

Just wondering how many use comtraception or hormone replacement? I'm trying to decide if the risk is worth it due our already high risk of DVTs

In Jan 2014, after 3 hospital admissions in month, I went home and developed a blood clot in my arm. My pcp worked me up for a clotting disorder and sure enough, I have Factor V Leiden which makes one clot more than normal. Up until then, I was using the nuvaring, my favorite bc. Previously, I had a NP try to place non-hormonal IUD but since I haven't had children, my uterus was too small. To answer your question, if I didn't have Factor V Leiden, I would still be using the nuvaring. No doctor had ever counseled me otherwise knowing my history of UC and my PCP is top shelf of knowledge.

Since you've already had a superficial thrombus, I understand your concern. I was fitted for a diaphragm but haven't used it yet because I've had a difficult time finding spermicide made for use with diaphragm. Using condoms for now with my boyfriend. What has your gyne advised?

I was looking into BC today as well and I am going to discuss with my doc at my next appointment
I may have von willebrands (hard to test for because factor 8 is naturally increased during IBD flare) so that would actually work in my favor in this case...

It's a worry. I don't know what to do. The cream was a god send.. Stopped my acne, hair loss, mood swings anxiety everything. Now the cream has worn off and I'm back to square one. Skin broken out hair falling out again and panic attacks.. All hormones. I just want to know how high the risk is

I use Combi Patch (prescription) for HRT to combat menopausal symptoms. I started with the lowest dose 1 patch twice/week. Once all the symptoms were gone, I started lengthening the amount of time I wore each patch, then I reduced the size of the patch by cutting it. I now am stable using half a patch a week. I've tried slowly stopping, but symptoms returned when not using the patch at all so I decided to stay with half patch/week. Apparently my body needs that minuscule amount of hormones.

Why are people with UC more prone to DVT? If it's because of blood loss when flaring, wouldn't the risk be the same as normal people when in remission?

Maybe I should just reduce the duration I use it for. I thought the meds we use, such as pentasa thinned the blood anyway. I might take a natural blood thinner and use the cream for only a few months at a time. My blood has always clotted easily even before IBD but all my tests are normal. I've had my tubes tied and my pms has gradually gotten worst over the years with this cream being a gift. If only I found it before IBD I might not even have IBD. I used roaccutane and at 45 years old it's safe to say my acne is and alway has been hormonal. Feeling so frustrated and unsure. The cream is wild yam and is said to act like estrogen so this can increase clotting risks.. My IBD is well managed ATM. When I got the superficial thrombosis I was having trouble. But nothing in comparison to everyone on here. I haven't really had a severe flare. One that lasted two months is the worst I've ever experienced with UP.
