I was diagnosed with UC in 2010 Dec. Initially was on sulfasalazine for 3 years was flaring twice a year especially during seasonal changes, used Prednisone which almost stopped working for me. Docs suggested me to start Immunity suppressing drugs. I pretty much tried every approach suggested by my Doc until then and read on Internet, nothing worked. Finally I got to meet some one who beat UC and this is what helped me beat it with no episode for last 2 years. Please follow and spread the word
1. Eat Vegan and gluten free food (fresh, non processed i mean no canned, no frozen food. If you can afford prefer organic food)
2. Drink a glass of juice with Pineapple, apple and Kale per day, take 1/3rd cup 3 times a day (No pulp just the juice, skin of 1 pineapple, 3 apples and 10 leafs of kale, you make the juice once and can use it for 2 to 3 days)
3. MOST IMPORTANT get lot of sleep (NO SLEEP==STRESS), this is a must, good 10 hour sleep per day.
4.First thing in morning eat home made yogurt with left over rice every night (google home made yogurt follow instructions)
5. No sugars other than in the fruit juice (very important, no soda, alcohol)
6. Lot of cooked leafy vegetable food
7. My choice of carbs was rice + quinoa for protein
8. Switch to lialda (this is the only drug I'm taking now)
This is working for me and if you are desperate for cure and can sacrifice your cravings, this will work good. Hope this helps.
Pak.

Gotta wonder if some of these type of posts are trolls.

No I don't think the poster is a troll, he/she seems sincere and not selling anything.
I understand the desire to share information that has changed their life from horrible to remission.
Some of those reccs help me and others do not.
UC is such a confusing disease, even for medical professionals, there are so few things that work for everyone.
For example I just (by coincidence) gave pineapple juice a try, having been off fruit for so long. Sooooo delicious, but after 3 days had to stop because my gut said so.
The fact is that some people may get improvement doing as the poster does. Good for them.

Fair enough, I just don't see how it can be called a 'cure' if you can't eat what most do.

It's definitely not a "cure" but it's worth trying.
He did say cure in the last sentence if you read it. I tried a lot of this type of stuff without luck myself, but I think it's good if everyone tries for themselves. It's nice when people come and share their successes with whatever works for them. I don't like when people are "matter of fact" - like do this & do that, and you WILL get better. You should say "you MAY get better". Not everyone gets better with anything.
Stay healthy :)

Not sure a high fibre vegan diet is great for everyone with UC.
Hope you stay well.

You gotta be careful when you post words like "cure" and "this will work good" because some people on here have tried everything you've stated and they're still in very poor health. Just a heads up. Some people aren't as fortunate as you to beat their disease with lifestyle changes. That being said, thank you for your tips.

I'm a cynic, sometimes think one person makes multiple accounts to spread the news of their UC "cure". Also, the claim to switch to Lialda is dubious. Lol, maybe it's a Lialda drug company rep.
The advice is harmless though, not like they are saying jump off a cliff.

It's the word cure that gets people upset. I could say surgery cured me as I feel it did but it's certainly not a real cure. Kind of a drastic cure. Just as I feel eating grass for the rest of your life or not being able to have a piece of cake is drastic. Can't say that's a cure. But we all do what works for us. :)

Thanks for sharing, perhaps somebody else might benefit from reading this. Just know uc treatment is extremely individual, and no treatment works universally for everyone. Often, something that near miraculously helps someone, can do nothing for another, or even worse make another's symptoms much worse. And I can see from the comments above, that some have already tried parts of this with the same sort of variety of results.
I'm glad you found something that helped your uc, as we all know how awful uc symptoms are to deal with, and how frustrating failing treatment after treatment can be. I hope your symptoms continue to stay well managed through your treatment.

Friends by no means I am trying to promote a drug or say this will work for every one. This worked for me after a lot of trial and error. I thought some one can benefit from the info. When one has UC, we eat selectively to live well. Number one thing I would say that helped is good sleep.

I don't understand the bit about
yogurt first thing in the a.m. with left over rice every night. Are you saying yogurt in the a.m. with left over rice or rice every night yogurt in the a.m.?
I had good luck with pineapple but for those who don't can supplement bromeliad. Also read recently to eat all food warm, not hot nor cold.
I totally agree on vegan no processed food and will try the juice. But I think gluten free is some kind of myth. Organic non GMO gluten is okay with my gut.
and the sleep!! YES

I believe the cold rice in the morning would be a source of resistant starch which many people benefit by eating. Potatoes, a resistant starch source, have been very beneficial to healing my gut.
Gluten free being a myth is pretty disrespectful to people who have seen enormous benefit by being GF. Aren't you basically calling us liars?
