It has been some weeks of steroid taper and I'm now down to 6 mg of methylprednisone a day (which equals 7.5 mg of prednisone). What I've noticed is that my stool is becoming more loose. It's still somewhat "formed" but it appears that it is becoming more "watery" and more "loose" with each day.
I must add that I'm a lacto-vegetarian and my diet is pretty high in stewed vegetables (my staple is sweet potatoes and carrots), close to a 1 kg (2 lbs) per day. Additionally from the lacto side I eat hard, lactose free cheese and butter. On top of this I also add rice, buckwheat and gluten-free breads.
So I was wondering if it's just a result of the prednisone taper – I mean when I was on higher dose I used to retain water and now when the water is not retained – the vegetables obviously make the stool more "watery" and "loose"?
I've heard that vegetarians/vegans have a lot more loose stool and have much more BMs per day. Before my flare in Sept on the same diet I was going 2-3 times a day. Now it's been 1-2. But today I had 3 and that made me a bit suspicious.
Maybe someone can comment with their own experience. Thanks
