Achieving remission somehow.

Hello guys. I've never posted in a UC thread before.
I'm 19 years old, I've had uc for the past 2.5 years. I started taking prednisone on my last flare which was great, tapered off for 3 months meanwhile switching to HUMIRA, still have some acne and hair slowly recovers 5 months after I'm done.
Two months ago I started flaring again, and currently under a pretty weird proctitis.
I have UC in most of my colon but currently only have proctitis, I'm not sure if that's thanks to HUMIRA or not.
It's pretty weird that HUMIRA dosen't treat the rectum as well..
Anyway, I've turned to natural sources. I started taking curcurmin 1g x 2 times a day and Boswellia 400mg twice a day, along with PENTASA(5asa) and 1g slippery elm before bed.
Diet has done wonders, I cut off dairy, sugar and snacks. Though theres not much bleeding, sometimes none at all! but I don't think that I can achieve remission by only diet. It's like the situation isn't constant.
If I'll eat something not in place i will bleed more and have more mucus. and I still have urgency.. I feel like diet and the natural supplement might be key to stay in remission, not to get into one. and since Humira dosen't work anymore and I really don't wanna return to Pred I'm pretty lost.

Thought I'd chime in with a suggestion to help get you into remission. At at the moment, your colon is trying to heal - think of it as a large patch of ulcerated skin. So the last thing you want to do it pour coffee on it for example (too acidic) or run roughage over it like peanuts/seeds (too abrasive). For the time being, try the following for your diet:

• No nuts or seeds
• No hot drinks except tea (any kind of tea is fine)
• No soda
• No alcohol except whiskey
• No cereals or breads
• No red meat or dairy (small amount of milk in tea is fine)
• Temporarily remove veg, although soft-cooked carrots will probably be OK (add these back in later)
• Temporarily remove fruit (add these back in later)
• No gravy except Kallo (Kallo does not contain wheat or gluten)

+ Eat chicken and all other white meats
+ Eat fish of any kind (without bones)
+ Eat potatoes of any kind (without skin)
+ Eat only soft cooked veggies
+ Eat dark chocolate, 70% or above (satiates desire for sugar, especially when you wash it down with a tea)
+ Eat eggs and any other WHOLE FOOOD of your choosing
+ Eat powdered herbs and powdered spices (be careful with hot spices obviously)
+ Eat butter (but NOT margarine)
+ Eat any good fats (coconut oil, olive oil, etc.)
+ Eat Sunbutter (tastes exactly like peanut butter but made from sunflower seeds ground down into a paste)
+ East raw spinach leaf juice right from the juicer (don't blend them, could be abrasive to the gut)

Effectively, we're going very easy on your digestive system with the selection of foods above. You won't eat like this forever, just for 2 months to give your body the best chance of healing. Once you're in remission, we can't start to add other foods back in except nuts/seeds and coffee.

Purchase a bag of Qing Dai from eBay. it's a tasteless blue herb from China, which is a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It's also dirt cheap. Some have used toITto get into remission alone but your inflammation might be slightly more seveEr. Take 1 teaspoon of this on your tongue and wash down with water. It doesn't easily dissolve in cold water. Alternatively, boil some water, add a little cold and stir in the Qing Dai then drink. Do this once a day before you go to bed.

Also add 3 caps of S. Boullardii to your daily regime, which you can purchase from Amazon. Take them on an empty stomach (2 hours after any food). Grapeseed Extract from Swanson is another great anti-oxidant, no harm in taking one of these caps with your Qing Dai.

Try this as part of your strategy and see if it's enough to help you get into remission. It's one of the big things that helped me.

Humira blocks body-wide inflammation (it's also used for RA and psoriasis), including the rectum. Given rectal inflammation is often the most severe of our inflammation.

Good morning. I'm new. I have been lurking and reading for a couple weeks now. I'm 57 F just diagnosed with UC September 2016. GI put me on Asacol and I was great for 4 1/2 months. Then all symptoms came back with a vengeance. He upped Asacol dosage. I'm so thankful my job is early mornings (3a.m.) for the privacy. I'm also thankful for this forum. I've been feeling so alone in all this. My husband is terrific, and understanding etc but I don't think people understand all that's involved. My family (2sisters and mom) don't understand why I don't go on outings with them. I can go to the bathroom and turn right around to go back in again. Always in the mornings sometimes in afternoons.

Now I'm trying the elimination process with food. The flare has slowed up in the last 3 days finally. But I eliminated just about everything so I guess I start adding.

Just wanted to say hi and thank everyone for so much information. I sit with paper and pen jotting down ideas or things to look up.
