For the past month, I've been what must be VERY close to remission.

Lately I've seen mucus and a few small spots/streaks of blood in my stool off and on. I'm only having 1-2 well formed BMs a day. Today I had a loose BM. Otherwise, I'm not experiencing any other symptoms. I feel great, and have no urgency or fever.

I've been tapering the Rawasa enemas (taking one every other day), but still take 3200 mg of Delzacol daily.

I was also diagnosed with internal hemorrhoids along with UC in early February. Am I experiencing a minor flare, or could it be the hemorrhoids? Is there any reliable way to tell? I'm definitely going to stop tapering the Rawasa.

Agreed, up your dose. If daily enemas resolve it then you know it's UC. Daily enemas can be used indefinitely in a remission.

Why are you on only 3,200mgs of delzicol? Should be 4,800mgs.

I'm almost in a remission is no reason to taper down your meds. Achieve a solid remission, wait multiple months and then slowly and carefully taper down. However, realize that textbook and what you actually need are two different realities. Textbook says 2,400mgs oral mesalamine a day is enough to maintain a remission. Reality is it could require 4,800 mgs and daily rowasa or any combination of doses in between. Everyone has different disease severities and that impacts what we really need.

I have been on 3,200 mgs since my diagnosis; I will speak with my GI about upping to 4,800.

He recommended that I begin to taper the Rowasa based on my absence of symptoms and how well I was feeling.

I will definitely go back to the nightly Rowasa.
