I've had a bunch of sigmoidoscopies none of which involved anesthesia, so no problems driving myself home afterwards. It's the anesthesia that makes us loopy/spaced out and necessitates a driver to take us home. The sig itself is very quick, 5 minutes or less. It's a little bit of pressure and discomfort but not that bad. As just like a colonoscopy, they must pump air within the bowel to see ahead with the scope (as when empty the colon walls collapse with opposing sides touching, like a sock laying flat on drawer). Afterwards, spend a couple minutes on the toilet to evacuate the air, and you'll feel better.
