Hey guys. I know I'm not on too much anymore but just wanted some of that healingwell comfort you all seem to give. I go in for my colonoscopy Jan 3 at 9 am and I am so nervous. I do a two day prep since I don't get cleaned out on a one day prep. I start on Monday and prep until Tuesday night.
I'm having a lot of anxiety about
it- just not eating and then pooping my brains out. Makes me think of my past flares when everything causes me pain and I poop non stop. I've been depressed all week just thinking about
it and was panicking at the store last night picking out my jello and juice.
I figured I'd come on here just to say hi and then give you the results when I get home on Wednesday. I've been pretty crampy and gassy the past few days but I think it is my period. I haven't had any UC symptoms in a while now.
Anyway, feel free to leave a comment and let me know how you are doing, too. I think about
you guys often!!

Hang in there! Scopes are so stressful but I hope yours goes well. No one likes pooping like a crazy person for a couple of days or longer. Hopefully things will look good and you will be back to normal quickly. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Have had 15-20 scopes. Have had UC 32 years. Plan on a lot of rest bc u will be wiped out. Drink clear fluids if allowed. And dream of your first meal after your all done. U will be fine. Keep your mind busy that thing between my ears can cause me a lot of anxiety so I need to think as little as possible. Good luck

I have only had 3 scopes so I am pretty new to this but I think the anxiety and prep are the worst think about
the after. I just remember some really good sleep.

hey B girl - always nice to hear from you - sucks that you are feeling .......... sucky !
yup i get those thoughts too - do not want to revisit the past again - EVER -
it's always a weird time of the year - for some reason things just get funky - but then they always straighten themselves out and we're back to just the usual stuff - you'll be fine -
how was your Christmas ?

Bacon Girl, nice to see you! You sound like me. I have such a hard time with the prep. I failed once, and was borderline the following two times. I try so hard!! If all goes well, tell me what you did with your prep in case I can incorporate anything into my next one.
I even asked my GI and she said I was doing all I could do except that next time I am going to try a week of low residue diet before the actual liquid diet phase of the prep. She (jokingly) said I eat "too healthy" normally... LOL. Just in terms of prep of course. I eat a lot of vegetables and fruit and she says it's amazing how much trouble a tiny little seed can cause and how long it can linger in the system.
And it just makes it worse that I get so anxious and in such a turmoil about
it, but that is hard to control.
Best of luck to you!!

Thanks, momto2boys. Hope you are doing well!!!
3timechamp, oh gosh. That is a lot of scopes!! I plan on reading as much as possible tomorrow. I just started the Dexter series so that has been really fun and good distraction.
Twingirls, you are so right. Being put to sleep is my favorite part! HA!
Lonnie, have you had a scope recently?? I hope you and the family are doing well. Christmas was interesting. No cooking involved. I went to the bakery and raided the baked goods (all
cookies!) and went out for Chinese food! I think that might have been one of my favorite Christmases yet!! Did you guys have a nice Christmas/New Years??
Serenity, We are the same. I love eating salads and veggies so not having that does suck. I went out for Thai last night and had a big red curry so that probably wasn't smart, but hey, I figured I'll be pooping it all out anyway!! I have only pooped once since I started drinking at 1 pm so I'll probably be on the can all night! My goal was to take a relaxing hot bath tomorrow to help with the cramps but I have a feeling I'll be hopping in and out to poop.

Oh man I can relate! Preps make one so sick and are so rough on my system that I usually end up in agony with a migraine and throwing up on the day of. My problem isn't not getting cleaned out but getting #too# cleaned out. I had one prep that went OK and that was with suprep so going to try that again next month. Hoping yours doesn't go too horrible bad! Focus on the day after when you are recovered and can eat again! And sleep all day after.

Still in Clinical Remission!! Woohoo!!!!
It went really well today guys. Everyone was so nice and I had the best anesthesiologist. She put the oxygen mask on my head and once she did that, I was completely out. I didn't even feel her put the anesthesia in my vein so I'm wondering if there was something else with the oxygen?? I have no idea. I didn't even have time to count backwards from 10. I don't remember most of being at the hospital either but apparently, I was hilarious and making jokes with everyone.
He said there was obvious evidence of severe pancolitis and scarring and that my colon still looks like a lead pipe. Very smooth with no lines? My mom can't remember what he said. Also, I already knew this, but there is a large hole between my small intestine and colon due to severe inflammation in the terminal ileum. The IC Valve is gone and stays
open all the time. He did see some white spots in my rectum and sigmoid that he biopsied so I will let you know what that is when I get those results. I honestly don't know what it is but I'm guessing it might be leftover prep powder?? Who knows?
But anyway, I'm happy it is all over and hope I am in remission for my next one in 2-3 years!

Great news!!! I hate when you feel a burn from the IV. Of course you forget about
it quickly, but it burns when it's happening. The whole procedure sounds like it went very well for you. I hope you continue to feel well.

Congrats on remission! If you don't mind me asking how can you have a hole and it not be an emergency? I thought perforations were life or death?

Thank you Kara, Ipoop, Spring, Mom, and Flowers!!
Spring, it just means that the ending of my small intestine has
opened up so wide that it is the same size as my colon and there is no flap there anymore. We are born with a valve between the two that
opens and closes when food is done digesting. When my UC inflammation was very bad a couple of years ago, it eroded away the valve and widened my small intestine. Now, food goes into my colon when it isn't properly absorbed or done digesting.

Great news, thanks for the update BG! Sounds like your clean-out went well? Did you try anything new/different that helped?

Good for you! I'm glad its over for you. Does food speed through you due to the
opening?

So glad it went well and things are looking good! You have known about
this ileum issue already, right?

Serenity, I just used magnesium citrate. It seems to work well for me and it tastes good.
Countess, food only goes fast when my IC Valve syndrome is flaring but it hasn't in a while. I take Welchol for it when it does. I am usually constipated all the time because food backs up in my right side and doesn't move.
Work was really rough today. I was having intense cramps for 2 hours and when I went to the bathroom, I had quite a bit of bleeding. I started panicking but went back to my desk because I still had 3 more hours of my shift. The same thing happened when I got home so I think I got my period. I haven't had it in over a year so it is hard for me to distinguish between UC cramps and period cramps. I was worried that the biopsies caused the bleeding but I am 99% sure it's not coming from the butthole.
