Regardless of outcome of your diet (good or bad), I would recommend you take a daily 90% topical, oral mesalamine (asacol, lialda, mezavant) as a maintenance treatment. Why? Mesalamine as a maintenance treatment reduces our colorectal cancer odds. As UC patients, our colorectal cancer odds are normally increased.
Yeah one of my doctors told me to take 800 mg a day. She told I have nothing if comparing to people with a real bad disease. That's why she was giving 800 mg. But I read some papers and there is no proof that mesalamine lowered the number of cancers being developed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read many of those papers, hoping to see anything positive about
this med (which seems to be safer because it acts on the intestines only).
