After 4 yrs of Remi, I only have a few patches of mild UC remaining. I'm doing well, BM like a non UC person since I went on remi.

Doc seems bent on eradicating it totally. He talked about adding more meds, but my liver won't tolerate them ( humira, etc). So he prescribed VSL3. I was surprised at that. Oh, and now I'm on yearly colonoscopies. Possibly because of a fair amt of polyps.??

Sometimes I think he needs to just be patient, or are most people UC free after this amt of time on Remi??

Good news your scope results came back so well, maybe scored an A on the exam? An A+ would've been no inflammation at all.

A deep/quiescent/total remission is always preferable for the longest remissions. However, since you're doing so well I would not consider making major changes at this time. Why potentially mess up things that are working by going to humira?

Best to treat mild inflammation with mild treatments, and hope for results over time. What you describe is hardly disconcerting, so I would just make small changes and see how you do next year. Try the VSL, try a few things like it that are similar (crushed psyllium seed, turmeric/curcumin, etc.).

TY, IP. That's how I feel also. Sometimes I feel like this doc just feels the need to do something, order tests whatever, every visit.

What's your opinion on the yearly scope?

How many years ago where you initially diagnosed with an UC? If you're 8-10 years or more then yes annual scopes are recommended for colorectal cancer screenings, as that's when our CRC risks start to increase. Otherwise, I'd just ask for an annual Faecal Calprotectin (FCP) or C-Reactive Protein (CRP) tests instead of scopes, for ongoing monitoring of you when you're doing well!

You'd have scopes more frequently if you have a family history of CRC, or have had a suspicious polyp or dysplasia seen.
