question for j-pouchers

I am surprised you didn't get more response on the j-pouch site. There are really only a few people with j-pouches who stick around and post here, me being one. That said, I have not taken any sleep aids with my pouch. I think for me, the best way to get a good night sleep is to eat a little earlier, but then I've had some times when I eat late and I sleep fine.

I don't think your current situation with UC can be compared to a jpouch. If you get up to go with UC, it's from inflammation, and with a j-pouch, you will no longer have inflammation. You will hopefully be able to get things managed with diet and by eating earlier. Many people do get up in the night, but not as often as you describe.

I have a j-pouch as does my gastro doctor. I always have to get up at least twice in the night to use the bathroom. Sometimes, if I sleep too soundly I have had accidents which are really annoying. It's funny you asked this because at my last appointment my doctor and I both joked that we would never take a sleeping pill. Now, do I get up as much as I did with UC absolutely not. When I was at my worst I would spend most of the night in the bathroom.

I've had my J Pouch a little over 2 years. Prior to that I took Ambein and unfortunately got highly addicted to it so I no longer take any prescription med for sleep. With my pouch though, I still have occasional night time accidents. I can go a week with none, then the next few days I can have a couple a night. I will not sleep on a plane when I travel or anywhere in a public setting for fear of leaks. I may get up a couple times a night to quickly use the bathroom but I generally wake either because my dogs, or because a small leak will start to irritate my skin and wake me.
