What a year its been. This time last year my colon was severely inflamed.Only thing that was helping me live was Prednisone,but it wasn't getting me anywhere close to 100%.I had consulted with 2 surgeons already so once i knew i was prob at end of my rope i made the call to set up surgery date.After 32 years of the dreaded UC monster i took the next step which was a great choice.It seems many UCers are in hospital bleeding and meds are not working and they have no choice but surgery.I was not in that spot YET. I was not bleeding at all[i have bleed in past many times].Every day was a struggle last fall/winter,anxiety every day wondering can i drive to jobs[im a contractor].Surgery has given me my life back.Im free of the nightmare of UC.Recovery from each surgery wasn't that bad,i don't like sitting around so as soon as i could move some i did.Be careful and rest for few weeks if u go the surgery way,listen to Dr and nurses.Looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner this year.Hope you all in U.S have a great holiday-God Bless you all

Happy to hear you're doing so well. It is nice to be excited about thanksgiving, and to be able to eat whatever without beating yourself up over it, and blaming it for your poor health smile I didn't realize you were on prednisone for a while leading up to surgery. i thought you were semi-managed but didn't want to take stronger med. It's good you moved forward. Prednisone is the worst.

Yea once Pred wasn't doing what it had done in past then I kind of knew I had decision to make. Humira and Remi were not happening bc of what they do to immune system. So surgery it was. Good choice

Congrats 3xChamp! Glad to hear your choice was the right one for you and hope things continue to go well. Your journey is one we all face but dread to think about...so it's heartwarming to hear a success story! Happy Turkey Day!

I'm glad you're happy with your decision. Thirty-two years is a lot. I only managed to live 16 years with UC haha

I exhausted my medical options and I knew years ago that surgery is going to happen sooner or later. I'm now done with step 1 and I'm slowly getting better and used to it. I'm in my thirties and I thought to myself that even if a drug would put me in remission now, I will eventually flare again and then be back at square one. And I'd be older. Also I was still at a good weight during this flare so I decided now is the time. I dont regret it. The timing was perfect. If I had it done earlier it might have not been good. I can imagine that I could have been even sicker but I remember I told my GI five years ago I wanted the surgery but then I happened to go into remission.

Andrina u made a good choice. I'm very happy for u. Like u I wasn't at deaths door but I knew it was time. Surgery 1 and 2 my surgeon used my old spleen scar. It's straight down middle of my stomach. 42 staples first surgery. 38 second surgery. Wasn't easy recovering. Took time for everything to heal but I would do it again tomorrow. Welcome to class of 2018.
