Currently diagnosed with Proctitis.
Medication that has worked: Mesalamine enema
Meds that did not work: prednisone, hydrocortisone enema, mesalamine tablets (lialda)
Hi everyone, in one of my previous posts I mentioned that mesalamine enema does work for me and gets rid of all symptoms within a week, but it seems that even after 1-2 months of using the medication, the moment I stop, it will come back within around 2 weeks. I was suggested by a someone in the forums to slowly taper the enemas. So I've taken the enemas for around 3 weeks and began to taper, but symptoms began to show again. I do feel like the enemas can put me into complete remission if I take them for a longer period of time, but I'm wondering if it is safe or even recommended to continue with the enemas? I've found a resource online, that shows that it is possible to achieve remission with just mes enemas, but it had taken 34 weeks. I'm not sure if it's entirely true. I believe I'm at a very minor stage of proctitis since my number of bowel movements per day is normal (1-2 times) but, symptoms include blood in stool, bloating, and mucus. I also can see that the left side of my stomach is larger and I can feel it. I exercise regularly and eat healthy (blended vegetables every morning, brown rice for lunch and dinner along with clean proteins), so would this be ideal to continue?
