Recently C. auris reached New York, New Jersey and Illinois, leading the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to add it to a list of germs deemed “urgent threats.”

C. auris is so tenacious, in part, because it is impervious to major antifungal medications, making it a new example of one of the world’s most intractable health threats: the rise of drug-resistant infections.

The good news is that the threat of becoming sick with C. auris is very low for healthy people going about their daily lives.

yikes. I had a superbug once. No one ever really found out exactly what it was - even with tons of tests and cultures. It makes you wonder. I am thankful I am off the immune suppressant medications. I know in my case, and in a lot of these cases, they are at the root of this issue. Prednisone combined with immune-suppressing drugs is dangerous too. Prednisone alone is enough to shut down your body's defenses.

Hasn’t there always been some sort of superbugs/illnesses since the dawn of humanity? Spanish flu, plague, measles. Now we have treatments that save people so when there is an untreatable disease it freaks the public out.

I was my hands and get my recommended shots, there is not much more that I can do.
