What do you take for (non-intestinal) inflammation?

I haven’t been able to take ibuprofen or NSAIDS for many years prior to my diagnosis (now I know why), so I definitely can’t take them now. What do you take when you need it for joint inflammation or or post surgery, etc?

Also, how is medicinal MJ generally regarded for UC? I do not partake but I’m considering it for multiple health facets.

Generally we try to stick with tylenol, whenever possible. If you have to take NSAIDs (which are COX 1 and COX2 inhibitors), then the safer bet is taking only a COX2-only inhibitor like Celebrex.

If you have consistent joint inflammation, then you can ask your gasteroenteroligist about switching Lialda for Sulfasalazine which is used to treat both Rheumatoid Arthritis, hitting two birds with one stone.

Depends on where you live, medical MMJ rules vary on what illnesses are covered. Some states cover Crohn's and UC, some just Crohn's.

I just have the occasional issues with my shoulder/neck and ankles and an anti-inflammatory would probably make all the difference. As we know, Tylenol doesn’t do much but numb the pain for a bit.

And about MMJ, I was more asking if users actually find benefit in regard to their UC. I wouldn’t want to partake if it generally made matters worse.

Ibuprofen.

Honestly, life is too short. I deal enough with abdominal pain, I'm not putting up with endless headaches, sinus pain, eye pain, back/pelvic pain, neck and shoulder pain, etc. as well.

My small bowel is disease-free and it's not ibuprofen which is causing the active Crohn's in my rectum and anastomosis.

Edit: I just reread your post. When you say you can't take ibuprofen, do you mean it causes you symptoms? If NSAIDs are out for that reason, then I guess look at a weak opiate/opioid in conjunction with paracetamol (Tylenol). In the UK we have co-codamol, which is joint paracetamol/codeine. I know the US has something similar, but not sure what it's called. At any rate, paracetamol is largely useless on its own but can increase the effective of other painkillers, like codeine.

It's tylenol-c (with codeine) on this side of the pond. It contains an opioid (narcotic) pain reliever (codeine) and a non-opioid pain reliever (acetaminophen).

Thanks iPoop. That's exactly what co-codamol is, but with varying amounts of codeine (8mg per 500mg of paracetamol is the strongest strength you can get OTC).

Right. I am more looking for the healing properties of an anti-inflammatory than just a painkiller. Sometimes when you have an inflamed muscle or joint, all the painkillers in the world aren’t going to help heal you like an anti-inflammatory would. And yes, in the past, ibuprofen would give me awful tummy pain and referred pain in my upper back. Tears my stomach up!

Considered turmeric/curcumin? It's anti-inflammatory. Also a blood thinner though.

I know people who get a lot of benefit from CBD products, which I know some people around here use for their UC

Nabumetone and Turmeric extract (DIY). Search Nabumetone on the board. I have discussed this many times.

I do not touch tylenol at all due to its necessity to use glutathione for its metabolism, body's only antioxidant.

For turmeric, you may want to look into the absorption of what you take. For example, a form that is hydro-soluble absorbs better.

I take Tylenol. I also take Bayer for back/body when I have back pain. So far, I've had no issues with it.

I use Celebrex....no problems, but I do take it with a full meal.

Good ole ginger tea helps me with minor arthritis pain.
