My opinion - i hate this trend which is basically blaming and shaming people for health conditions that developed for reasons over which they had very little control.
I have seen NO scientific evidence to support any of these ideas.
I actually gave myself mental health problems by blaming myself for my illness. This was made much worse by the fact i used to immerse myself in the yoga/spiritual community who like to blame diseases on past lives/negative thought patterns/doshic imbalance/self hatred blah blah blah etc.
In my opinion this attitude is wrong and it's dangerous. I even delayed telling the hospital when I was having flare ups because I thought i could fix it with the power of my mind (my yoga teacher told me "You're fine, you're just being neurotic"). I suffered longer than I needed to and I would hate to imagine somebody even dying because of this.
My psychologist said it's because people are generally afraid of death and not being in control. Colitis is arguably a condition over which most of us have little control without medical intervention. When others observe this, they try to find a reason for it so that they don't have to fear becoming sick themselves.
Ok i will get off my soap box now. Thanks for letting me rant.
Thanks for your reply, it’s been very relevant with what I’m experiencing. I’ve just stated yoga, so now I’m guessing I’m getting targeted ads related to that.
What you describe is what I’m constantly seeing. Perhaps if I was more spiritual, I could help fix myself and my failure to lead a more holistic life has been my downfall. I’ve also been wondering if any of the people saying this stuff have actually had any kind of real disease themselves!
It seems you have already gone down this path & it didn’t help, so I will try not to dwell on it anymore. Thank you.
