Ive been suffering with headaches last few days. What can we take for headaches since its not advisable to take tylenol or NSAIDS?

Tylenol is fine or anything with acetaminophen. Just avoid nsaids

Forgot to mention im on oral mesalamine. Does that matter?

I take NSAIDs once in a while for headaches. It's the only thing that helps my headaches. If something else helps you though, like Tylenol (acetaminophen), then take that. I have never noticed my UC being affected personally.

NSAIDs (COX1 and COX2 inhibitors) can make our UC symptoms worse or even cause a flare. So generally no, nos. However, some of us do take them at great rarity when tylenol won't touch a nagging headache. A little risky and all but whatever. Just not regularly on NSAIDs, only tylenol or celbrex (COX2 only inhibitor) for regular pains.

I have headaches almost every day....my neck is mostly the issue, but add weather, sinus, smells, nausea, and it's in a different category. Aspirin is for the absolute worst days, otherwise I try tylenol. I've been on Celebrex for almost a year....it's been awesome for my hips.

You could try Robaxacet...make sure you're eating enougg and taking in enough fluids. Tylenol has different formulations...some with caffeine or methocarbamol.

I actually looked into NSAIDs and UC recently and I found studies that showed there was no greater risk of flaring for UC (there was for Crohn's).

For example, the American College of Gastroenterology's guidelines for management of IBD recognize NSAIDs as potential triggers for disease exacerbation.

"Contrary to the general belief, we did not find a consistent association between use of NSAIDs and risk of IBD exacerbations," Hamed Khalili, MD, MPH, of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, told MedPage Today. "This was surprising to us as generally clinicians advise against use of NSAIDs in patients with established IBD. But we caution against any changes in current practice as significantly more work is required to examine the safety of acetaminophen and NSAIDs in patients with CD and UC."

Well that is interesting, Sara. I'd love to be able to use Advil again. But I'll hold off until as they suggest significantly more work is required to firmly establish that finding.

Yes, it makes sense to be cautious with this disease. I definitely found it interesting though, too.

I found similar research as Sara and take NSAIDS when absolutely needed. No issues for me.

Thanks for sharing. I used to get a ton of headaches. After I cut out caffeine and quit smoking, I now get far fewer headaches. I still get them a few times a month on average, but usually if I take Aleve right away, I can make them go away before they get bad. Glad you found something that helped you.

I have tried many things. Nothing really worked. Acetaminofen does not wok for me.
The only exception are NSAIDs, especially Meloxicam. They work.

Hot bath or shower relieves my headache for half a hour. Good sleep is helpful as well.
I also tried THC but it did not help me. Benzodiazepines are helpful but they are not safe
for long term using. I have been suffering from this headache for 20 years. I believe that it is
connected to UC.

What did help you? What relieved your headache?

Oligodar, have you seen a neurologist/headache specialist? There are many medications available to try for different types of headaches, not just acetaminophen and/or NSAIDs. There are many drugs that can be taken daily to prevent or at least reduce the frequency of headaches.

Yes I saw neurologist/headache specialists 10 years ago. Unfortunately they did not help me. I am going to try it again. Ten years is quite long period. There might be new procedures/meds available.

Are your headaches migraine type? What all did you try? There are so many things to try, it can get frustrating. There are a few brand new medications that are monoclonal antibodies, biologic drugs for migraines! I haven't tried any of those yet.

No, It is tension type of headache. Constant pain all the time.
I have tried meds for migraine but it did not help. It felt malaise after taking it.
One headache specialist suggested meds for treating epilepsy but I did not have
courage to take it because many side effects.
