Living abroad with colitis?

Would you be working/studying abroad? If so you could check with the employer/university to see if you'd be eligible for health insurance while away.

When I used to get Entyvio, I considered long-term travelling and found it too complicated to get care every 6-8 weeks. I decided to do short travels only, and then wait until I achieved remission or got surgery before doing anything more extensive. Even now in remission I am afraid to go to most places. A lot of foreign countries have infectious disease or just environmental conditions that could trigger a flare. My life is pretty local now. It's not what I would have wanted for myself, but after the hell I've gone through with this disease, simply being in remission is a huge achievement.

I am like Mark, I wouldn't feel comfortable living abroad with a chronic illness that required complicated treatment. If it was a permanent move and I qualified for treatment/insurance through work, or through being a citizen, that would be another story. I didn't attempt to travel while I was on heavy-duty RX, I didn't even travel much with UC, even while in remission and on low-tier meds. I would take small trips or necessary ones but I'd never stay anywhere very long - typically under a week! I also found carrying a bunch of medication around to be intrusive. That is just me though. I've seen a lot of people here who make the necessary arrangements and go for it, most people do quite well. If you put in the effort, you will find answers and make the proper arrangements. The other issue to consider is, if you did flare up, what kind of care would you receive? especially in a place where you do't speak the language (would be a big consideration for me in most places since I only speak English - I'd be okay in London) I've never had a travel insurance plan, but as imagardener said, tons of Canadians live in the US for months at a time. I'd look into that if I were you. Sounds like a possibility.
