Update and question on constipation

I really appreciate this forum. Thanks everyone for your support and opportunity to learn from other people experiences. Personally I don’t post much either because don’t have much to say or feel that some of my questions have no answers.
Anyway, I am 61yo female was almost a year ago diagnosed with segmental colitis associated with diverticulosis (SCAD). The colonoscopy showed about 15cm of inflammation (not severe) located between diverticula (not inflamed) with rectum spared. It also showed internal hemorrhoids. I was put on Asacol (2.4gr) a day. Now looking back I can say that I was improving very slowly with many setbacks. During this period of time I saw another GI for second opinion, but he just confirmed the first on that I didn’t need any other meds, including rectals, which I specifically mentioned.
The good part is things became more predictable. Almost no blood, occasionally some tiny specks, which I try to attribute to hemorrhoids. 3-4 BM, all in the morning in the same time. No urgency, no discomfort. But sometimes gases, that is hard to pass and strange consistency of stools. The first BM is formed with some really hard pieces. Then the subsequent softer ending soft or mushy. GI say it’s all due to chronic constipation. I read on internet that there are different types of constipation. So my question is did anyone deal with this? Any advice how to improve it?
I stopped all the supplements I was taking initially as my feeling was they do nothing for me. I still sort of follow IBD AID diet but per GI advice incorporate much more fiber like brown rice, buckwheat, etc. make my own kefir and try to stay away from sugar and processed foods.

Thank you, John, for the article and your response. As I went from totally ignorant to some understanding of my issues I read few similar articles.
My CRP was normal even before the colonoscopy. Calprotectin was not ordered, I guess because my rectum was normal. No inflammation there, per colonoscopy.
The thing is although I am not 100% back to normal, I am definitely much better than before. The last time I saw GI the conversation was - Are you better then before? Yes. Can you function thru your day with no problem? Yes. Continue and see you in 6 months.
It’s possible there is some minor inflammation in the sigmoid colon, but it seems to me that the issues I still have are caused by something else. That’s why I mentioned constipation hoping someone experienced something similar and could give me some suggestions.

For constipation and to increase regularity, there's a few broadly recommended, do-no harm things to try. You can try adding more fiber to your diet and see if that helps,like a metamucil fiber supplement. Add a bit more light exercise if you are sedentary. Make sure you are drinking enough fluids as well.

It's hard to say, certain points of the intestine (like the sigmoid colon and rectum) can cause motility (that is muscle motion) issues when thickened either from scar tissue, inflammation, or other like things. Motility-issues can cause either diarrhea or constipation (one extreme or the other). You have diverticulitis there as well, which might thicken things as well (not entirely sure there).

It really depends on the root cause, and we can only guess without more lab results (is it inflammation? Is it scars? Is it an IBS-like symptom that's independent of inflammation). If it bothers you then, I would ask your doctor to do a test for inflammation, maybe do endoscopy like a flexible-sigmoidoscopy.

ASellers - I think I should try miralax. Do you need a prescription for it? Or is it over the counter?
IPoop - I will see my GI end of August. See what he says. It’s certainly interesting to know what it looks like there as far as inflammation. But I don’t think I would push colonoscopy myself if he doesn’t bring it up.

When you see your doctor in August, I would ask for a Calprotectin stool test. That test measures your intestinal inflammation and will let you know if there's any troubles up there. I hear you on endoscopy, it's a literal and figurative pain in the butt, and I punt whenever I can to limit those!
