Asacol HD gives me hip and knee pain

I figured some of my pain out and I stopped Asacol HD and I feel human again, no hip or knee pain, almost like I was getting the flu.
What meds orally aren’t meselamine ? Is it just sulsafidine? My spelling is so off, sorry.
The rectal Rowasa doesn’t make me feel the way the oral does, so that’s a bonus.

I need orals but wonder what isn’t the same med as Asacol HD, I can try. I forget.

You'd have to go to the thiopurines (azathiopurine/imuran or 6-mercaptopurine) to get away from the mesalamine within an oral formulation.

I believe you mean Azulfidine (sulfasalazine) which is mesalamine.

All mesalamine: Apriso, Asacol HD, Balsalazide Disodium, Colazal, Delzicol, Dipentum, Giazo, Lialda, Meslamaine DR, Pentasa, and Sulfasalazine/Azulfidine.

I suffered flu like symptoms for like a week when I started balsalazide. My whole body was aching. I’m not glad you are going through this but glad it’s know it’s not just me. I sometimes have strange reaction to meds.

I had knee and leg pain for a week or so when I was on Asacol. It continued (although less) on Lialda. MOstly felt it at night, so I took all pills in AM. Problem went away and has not been an issue for years.

I would make every attempt to keep oral mesalamine because it has results for most and less side effects than other oral meds.

If you have to move on, you might skip 6mp/thiopurines and go right to biologic.

Asacol gave me horrific joint pain. I am now using Mezavant (known as Lialda in the States, I believe), and have no such pain whatsoever.
