Generic versus Brand Name

Hi I have had UC for about 22 years now. Prednisone.. all different strengths depending on
how bad my flare is and 4 Lialda a day ..is what helps me. Unfortunately... in January Lialda is going to be much more money.. I will probably have to go on the generic pill ... but heard the coating is different and is not as effective..
Does anybody else take the generic form ?
The real drug v.s. the generic.. the pharmaceutical companies are going crazy.
Another drug I take for a different illness.. will
cost $ 8000.00 for 30 pills .. Certainly can’t afford
that but.. once again .. afraid of the generic form..

It's not usually affordable to switch back to brand name, John. With my insurance I would have to pay full price for Asacol brand name vs generic.

I have taken shire’s generic of lialda which as far as I can tell is exactly the same. I switched to the North Star generic and was fine with it for months, then I had two months where I wasn’t breaking down the coating and was pooping the out whole. I called my pharmacy to get a different brand of generic but they don’t have one, however they reached out to the manufacturer and got a different batch and I have had no problems since then. They took back what was left of my old batch to test it. Who knows why it happened, but I have been doing well since then with generic. I should add that it isn’t much less expensive. Only about $300 cheaper than real Lialda.

Everyone is different, the only way to know is try it by yourself!
For example, I experienced bad side effects with the generic of Imuran( Azathioprine) , but not with the brand name, but others have no issues with the generic.

No I think OP said a different drug for a different illness.
