Colonoscopoy Prep

No one likes doing the preps, but here are a few things I have found that makes them a little easier for me.

Eat lightly for a couple days before prep day. Not all liquids, but no heavy meals. Go low fiber, low residue

I don't like gatorade so I mix half the Miralax with plain water and then alternate drinking a glass of gatorade with a glass of water

I used to basically guzzle drinking the prep just to get it over with. Every time I did that I got sick. The last time I made myself slow down and sipped 8 oz every 15 minutes. I did not get sick doing that.

Since I ate lightly a couple days before I was cleaned out pretty quickly.

Like you, I get anxiety over the thought of drinking that mixture. In the past I brought half it back up. But last month, I had a much better experience. I set my mind early to not stress!

I asked for Pico Salax and Senacot. No seedy, stringy food for a week prior. There is only 2 packages of the mix to be taken with 8 oz of water, 6 or so hours apart. The colder the mix was, the better and easier it went down. So I put ice in the glass, drank it like it was a strawberry margarita, then followed with lots of water, clear grape juice, and some apple juice.

I already lost my appetite with Gatorade, and ginger ale after the past several scopes. Lemon is not my friend anymore, so ice water is my number one. My scope prep was rated "fair" by my GI, but he never mentioned it at all. So I'm happy with that.

I personally always request GoLytely after the Miralax prep made me very sick the one time I tried it. A former GI of mine who I really liked said GoLytely is the safest prep. I just chase every drink with lemon ice, Gatorade, popsicles, or lemonade to get the yucky taste out of my mouth. Good luck with your scope.

Colyte is ugh, Quincy??? That's the one my GI wants me to try next time. Tell me what was ugh - did it work at least?

I was told when I had my scope in June....Colyte has flavouring it. The one I had was pineapple. Lots of sweeteners in it....ugh.

Maybe GoLytely is available in the US.

I prefer MoviPrep, but unfortunately it’s not covered by my insurance plan this year.

I prefer the Miralax and Gatorade prep, because I can control the flavor and alternate flavors. The prescription stuff made me gag and throw up.

So it wasn't as bad as I remembered it. I honestly didn't check the brand - i think it was a generic GoLytely. It had no flavor. I mixed it early in the day then chilled it well and drank it with a straw - that was key. Worked like a charm and once I felt it had done the trick I didn't drink any more of it.

Scope went well and I there is no sign of the disease, thank God! Remicade is doing its job! She took many biopsies though so I was in a lot of pain next day, which I didn't expect (or remember being this way). I feel the bowel is getting back to normal, but I want to step up the fiber asap. I considered adding in some probiotics but so far I don't feel I've needed them.
