Cancer Treatment While on Pred for UC

Welp, a cyst that I discovered on my neck a couple months ago and that they thought was just a cyst, turned out to be oropharyngeal cancer. Wonderful. Had a neck dissection and now I'm scheduled for 7 weeks of daily radiation and weekly chemo. :-(

Meanwhile, I'm still tapering pred from a flare.

I'll be working with all docs to coordinate, of course, but just wondering if anyone else out there with UC has gone through radiation/chemo therapy. Did they switch you to some other UC treatment during the treatment period?

Eph, so sorry to read about your cancer diagnosis. We do have a member here called "songlady" that underwent treatment for cancer. Hopefully she will check in & comment. In the meantime, you can use the "custom search at the top on the right. If you will type in "member songlady & UC forum", you should be able to pull up a lot of her posts to read.

So sorry Eph! That sucks! Hang in there!

My husband had radiation for cancer many years ago and it does take a lot out of you. Depends on how often you have to go in for treatments but the effect is cumulative — by the end he had extreme fatigue. But he was lucky and never had burns or skin irritation. They will recommend some creams to use so be sure to follow their advice. He used aloe Vera gel but a friend who recently had a short course of radiation (and no problems with it) used some kind of cream that had calendula in it.

Wow....really sad to hear of your diagnosis.
Songlady is who I can think of as well.

All I can suggest is use rectal mesalamine meds as well.

Thanks, all. On the bright side:

a) I'm home during this time and don't need to explain things to co-workers
b) I hit my insurance deductible and max-out-of-pocket and all my UC meds are now FREE!!

Does healingwell not have a private messaging tool?

Eph, no we do not have the private message feature, we've asked for it to no avail. You can click on a member's name & can see their profile. Some members have their email address listed, some do not.
