Ambling...there are a variety of oral mesalamines that have specific initial release locations and in what PH or time release and continue throughout the colon.
Rectal mesalamine meds don't have release "programming". They come in liquid, foam and suppositories and varying dosages and amounts.
The point of treatment with mesalamines is to cover the entire colon and rectum.
Steroid topicals can also be used in the mix, alone or with mesalaine.
It's not usual for UC to heal in patches., including the rectum (where it starts). Or one having stubborn right side or transverse with rectal healing. To me it would be in the inderminate category (which is usually CD ultimately).
It is possible for someone to have Microscopic colitis (either Lymphocytic or collagenous), ischemic colitis or infectious colitis in areas that are contradictory in a UC patient.
