Pentasa Suppository: How long to continue treatment after symptoms gone?

Dear all,

My child 11 yr old is using the Pentasa Suppository 1g and oral Pentasa daily to treat her UC pancolitis. Her symptoms have cleared. Yay! For those of you who use this drug, how long to continue the suppository to maintain remission? Can we reduce the frequency from once daily to alternate days?

How long was she on them?

She has taken the oral Pentasa for about 18 months. Pentasa Suppository 1g at bedtime every night for almost 3 months.

Hi...you're welcome 😊

If her bms are doing fine, 1 or 2 times a day with no constipation...she can try tapering to every second night for at least a month or two. If symptoms change that are consistent and increasing, she should go back to nightly.

It takes a while to recognise any symptoms that aren't extremely obvious. Note them.

Keep us updated at how she's doing.

Ask her gasteroenterologist on this point. Sometimes we taper other times we do not. Depends on a lot of variables not described in your post.
