Meloxicam irritating UC?

My rheumatologist wants me to start on daily meloxicam to reduce arthritis inflammation. I'm considering trying it for a week,

One of the known side effects is possible gut irritation. I've contacted my GI's office, but no answer yet.

Meloxicam has some serious cautionary side effects, especially for someone with ulcerative colitis.

My gi says no to NSAIDS of any kind. I got stupid twice & ended up with an ulcer from taking Ibuprofen for arthritis pain. The last one landed me in the hospital. I'm not sure of the area you are having the pain, but have you tried any of the OTC pads that has lidocaine in them? I use the Salon Pas & they do help. My other go to is Voltaren gel, available OTC as of February 2020. I cannot take the oral but the gel works good & it takes a good, it takes about 7 days to be effective.

If your UC is under control I wouldn't chance rocking that boat.

You should not be taking it orally. Try Voltarin gel NSAID gel that works pretty well. Still some systemic absorption, but orders of magnitude better than oral route. That’s a dumbass primary care mistake.

Thanks, guys. Like most, I'm an occasional victim of incompetent, or just lazy, physician advise. That's why my question.

My pain is severe in one ankle, and moderate in one shoulder. The discomfort is occasional, but is usually there to some degree.

I'll just stick with Voltaren Gel 1% for now. It will be interesting to hear what my gastroenterologist has to say.
