Hey, there-- I just read your comment on upcoming consult in Suchatravesty's thread on Kaiser LA. So I'm posting now to tell you that longtime forum member *Jen* who doesn't post regularly 'cause she's busy with job & kids, saw Dr. Mahadevan in SF for several yrs RE UC. If interested in her experiences there, you can look up her past forum posts. She was last here in March or April participating in a COVID vaccine thread, as I recall. *** Good luck with your consultation. / Old Hat (40+ years with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

Nice. Had my consult yesterday. Talked to another dr first for about 30 minutes before dr M came in. They are referring me to a surgeon up there — not for my UC but for my diverticulitis. Not ready for that yet.

I don’t think I’ll be seeing dr m again but she seemed very knowledgeable

Dr. M. plus 3-4 other female gastroenterologists in USA became prominent spokespersons for improving IBD treatment by the late 1990s. I remember when *Jen* started to see her she was mainly focusing on pregnancy-related flare issues. *** I'm sorry to read that you're having diverticulitis problems, FlowersGal. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

I also had surgery at UCSF.. dr Finlayson. It was jpouch surgery, not diverticulitis. But you’re definitely in the right place.

I can’t recall now the name of the surgeon — haven’t made the appt yet. I may be able to have a 2nd resection but need a scope first to determine how many diverticuliti I have. Unfortunately jpouch not a consideration because of my age mainly. So eventually I’ll be looking to a colostomy— just a matter of how long I can put it off for. Just my luck — get the UC under control and the the DT returns.

Wow, that really sucks, Flowers. How old are you that they won't consider j-pouch if you don't mind me asking? I always thought you were pretty young. There is a pretty great and active support forum for ostomates on reddit, in case you're interested. It seems like the one here is not very active. There are also a lot of really informative YouTube videos. I've been watching them in case I get surgery.

I’ll be 70 this year. I’m in pretty good shape so they could maybe consider it but that would be the surgeons decision.

I’m ok to get through another episode of DT — they usually recommend surgery after 2 complicated cases and I’ve only had one. So hoping to put it off until I’m really old and senile. 🤪
