Something alarming being detected in a few Covid recovered patients in India right now

Is this an infection, a person with UC could also typically be susceptible to? For those not on immunosuppresants I mean. I mostly only hear of folks testing for C-Diff when an infection is suspected over flare like symptoms.

You can get CMV at any time and it can affect you anywhere in your body. I read one time that a majority of adults in the U.S. carry the virus in an inactive state. I was really sick with a mono like illness that was completely debilitating in the early 90s. They finally diagnosed me with CMV. Since I now carry the inactive virus they checked me when I was diagnosed with U.C. and again the last time I had a really severe flare a few years ago to make sure it wasn't CMV colitis and both times the virus hadn't reactivated -- was just a bad flare both times. Nothing I can do about it so I don't stress over it and rarely even think about it.

The vaccine seems to be reactivating dormant viruses in some people, especially shingles. CMV could be part of that. If you have a history of these infections, you may want to avoid the vaccine until more data on risks of viral reactivation is gathered.

I had my 2nd dose on March. I guess if CMV is reactivated in a year I can blame it on the vaccine ;)

As said above, CMV could be a cause of colitis. When I was in a bad period and not getting better on meds I was biopsied for it (negative) and antibody tested for it (negative). Good gastro departments in the UK will test for it if people are not improving on immune suppressant meds. Not going to lie, I worry about picking it up and getting susceptible to another form of colitis.

There have been some scary stories coming out of India. Sadly many there have been forced to self-medicate and have apparently used high dose steroids too long and this may be why there is re-activation of diseases, increased fungal diseases etc. India also has high numbers of people with diabetes, vitamin D deficiency and cardiovascular problems which also contributes to susceptibility to Covid19 and diabetes to very severe side effects from steroids.
