While your colon is severely irritated it's best to avoid roughage like raw veggies & fruits, especially ones with tough skins, seeds, & high acid like citrus. Plain boiled rice, skinless poultry & fish, eggs, bananas, natural applesauce or pear sauce, cooked farina or smooth oatmeal, mashed or steamed or roasted/baked carrot, potato, beets, squash usually are tolerable. Mainly avoid heavy fats, spices, and caffeine. Unless you have gluten or casein issues, too, you can eat seedless breads & rolls, plain poundcake, and give low-sugar yogurt a try. Read labels on processed foods so as to avoid unnecessary additive & preservative chemicals. Prednisone generally gives people super-human appetites so keep your munchies low-cal, low-salt to moderate weight gain & the dreaded "moonface" side effect that takes a while to get rid of once it appears. Drink plenty of water daily and avoid carbonation to minimize gut gas. You could also puree some nutritious veggies like beans to make soup, and beets or green peas make delicious summer soups to eat cool. *** Take good care & let us know how you're doing as time permits. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)
