Black streaks on stool

I need some advice. I have a new look to my perfectly formed stool. It's the right overall brown color, but it has black/dark brown streaks on it, each an inch to 2 inches long. They don't seem like blood. I am doing the mesalamine enemas. Might that throw some of these dark stripes on my stool? I went off the mesalamine enemas and a flex sigmoidoscopy showed moderate inflammation and ulcers in the rectum leading to urgency and incontinence. That's why I stopped doing ememas because I wasn't able to hold them in. Re-started nightly enemas and the incontenince and urgency stopped. My colonoscopy in September showed a lot of improvement over last colonscopy two years ago and the rectum cleared up. .

Thank you in advance for your thoughts on the black streaks on the stool.

No...the enemas wouldnt cause a black streak, but blood from upper GI tract would. Obviously, you're having formed stool to be able to see the streak. You should see your doctor.
Are you using any NSAIDs?
Have you eaten any dark foods or black or blue berries, etc?

My GI told me in an email that he doesn't think it's blood. The latest BM was normal stool. I have terrific knee pain now and I know I can't take NSAIDs. Thanks for your advice, Quincy.

If you see black again you can apply it to one of those occult blood cards and take it to your GI or GP for a quick check for blood. They add a few drops of developing solution to the paper for immediate results.
