In search of good GI who understand IBD better in CT or Western Mass. If you have a good GI in this area and can recommend, I will appreciate. My GI retired before COVID and still don't trust the GI I have now. Thanks.

I think one of the places that people go for IBDs in CT is Yale.

Some others from CT go to UMass and other to NYC.

Thanks Keith. I had an appointment at Yale IBD center that I scheduled 6 months back. Met Dr. Gaidos and so impressed. She explained each medicine option in details. I got appointment for second opinion but now thinking to switch. It is about an hour drive which is not bad for follow up appointments but hard to drive for each infusion. I have to figure out if I can do infusion near by and still go to her. I am also one of those as Crohn's colitis/Uc boat but she told me looking at all the records colonoscopy from last 12 years that I have UC. Any way at this point it is not a big issue but I believe since all she does as GI is IBD. I will suggest anyone around that area to visit them if you ever need second opinion or switch GI.

Just a note: my GI is a 45 minute drive and I was already established at my local infusion center but he was fine with me to continue getting my infusions there. The only hang up we had was he wanted to do bloodwork at each infusion, which the nurses did, but then he said he wasn’t receiving the reports. But we got around all that by him having me get my blood work done at quest every 3-6 months instead. Works out better for me anyway as my veins are so wonky that the nurses said sometimes they couldn’t get them to “give” blood. They take the infusion fine but something about the valves.

Anyway it is possible to have infusions done at a different facility than your dr is associated with.

Thanks FlowersGal. I was looking into that option because with my current GI, I am basically running the show. He goes by book and doesn't explain well so I definitely need new GI I can trust. I can drive 1 hour for appointments without problem and can arrange for someone when colonoscopy needed. I might call my insurance and see my options for infusion centers

I’m treated at Brigham and Womens in MA and am really happy with my care. I go to their office in Chestnut Hill, MA, but I believe one or two of their doctors also practice in Foxboro, MA. Not sure if that location would work for you?
In addition, they offer virtual appointments. But scopes and things like that would of course have to be in office. Hope that helps!
