Hi,

People might know on here that while my UC is in remission for a good bit now on Entyvio I have had a lot of joint and eye issues put down to extra intestinal manifestiations. I have a good GI but a rude Rheumy at times. However we are due to change from Entyvio to Humira soon pending insurance clearance. I've been on 20mg of Pred for 2 weeks now to help with the mover over and the joint and eye issues.

I had a sore left wrist on the ulnar side for 6 months that was part of my point issue. The pain is still there...about 3/10 but over the last week I have developed numbness in my pinky and left side of my ring finger....classic ulnar nerve entrapment sign or some inflammation on the nerve. My worry is that this is getting worse...less so the pain more so the numbness and pins and needles....im due to see my Rhemy in 2 weeks...i wonder though is this new symptom a case for going to ER or PCP....its very freaky to have to deal with numbness and tingling as a UC symptom ......could i risk longer term damage if i delay

Sorry to read about your situation. Myself, I would not go to ER, at best they may do a plain film x-ray & tell you to follow up with your personal physician. I would start with my pcp & ask that an EMG studies be done to rule out any nerve entrapment. EMG's are very effective for picking issues with the hands.

Charlie, are your symptoms worse when the arm is abducted overhead and externally rotated with the head rotated to the same or the opposite side?

Just chiming in to add that I suspect it’s not an emergency. I have lots of neck and shoulder issues and sometimes get numbness or tingling in those fingers. My physical therapist has always been really reassuring

Yes gloria_D...thats exactly right...i feel a pinch and a zap of electricity...not terrible painful though but makes me nervous

thanks for the other messages too...numbness and tingling is a freaky symptom....also my anxiety is through the roof lately as dealing with death of my dad and an unwell mother...

If it's nerve entrapment it could be fixed by physiotherapy. I've had a few episodes of going numb over a part of my hand, sometimes during sports and sometimes just waking up like that in the morning. Mostly it resolved in a couple of days but i had one episode where I was doing a particular yoga posture and when i came out half of my right hand had gone numb and tingly. It took years to regain full sensation although there were some improvements in the first few weeks as well (I remember the joy when i could reach the "a" button on my phone for texting....) - in the later period, i think dry needling of my shoulder area helped. I did get it checked out by a neurologist including a test for carpal tunnel syndrome but they couldn't find any underlying problem.

I have had ulnar nerve entrapment for a long time but just live with. It goes down the back of my shoulder along the outside of my elbow and into my pinky/ring finger. Things that help it are nerve flossing and not ever resting on my elbows/leaning on them. I was advised to not sleep on my side either but I do. It goes through phases where it is extremely irritated and when it is more mild. What irritates it most is strength training by far. The doctor said surgery is my only fix at this point but I haven’t been able to have the surgery.
