I just read about the nogules and I feel a lot better. Thank you for suggesting this to me.

Hang in there.

My BIL has nodules in/on his lungs also. They are taking a wait and see approach with him. I don't have all the health information but what I do know is that it's been ongoing for years and he is out and about doing things. I don't know if he's on any medication for it.

Sometimes I think that the waiting for test results is difficult enough to send me into a mini flare--so be watchful. For me...during those times....Dr. Google is not my friend.

After the petscan, I plan on getting a second opinion. The doctor I have now I'm not comfortable with. He was very rude telling me the nogule has to come out, even if it's ok. That didn't sit well with me. He was scolding me like a child.

Oh that would be enough to send me for a second opinion as well. You need someone that you can ask questions of. I can't abide these doctors that think you are supposed to just meekly accept whatever they tell you. It's YOUR body so YOUR decision.

Ditto on getting a 2nd opinion. Even if your dr wasn't a jerk I would get a 2nd opinion regardless.

Glad that you got to read the article, I always stick with the well known medical sites when looking things up.

I'm really surprised by how many people I know that have nogules on their lungs. They just go every six months for an x-ray.

UPDATE: I went for the petscan. The nogule is just in the lung and I'll have it taken out. The size of it is 2.5cm right lower lobe. The doctor says it's best to take it out because down the line it might spread. I agreed. The surgeon will be calling me next week to set up an appointment. If I can wait until September to do this, that would be better for me and my brother, who will be with me. I'll see what the surgeon says.

What exactly is a "nogule"? I thought maybe Michele was just misspelling "nodule", but then Clo also said nogule so now I just don't know. Nothing comes up with google.

Michele -- this all sounds scary. 2.5cm is almost 1 inch so that's pretty big. Do you know how they are going to reach it?

MIchele, I think I would do the same thing, opt to have it removed. I would probably want it done as soon as possible but doesn't hurt to ask the surgeon if it would be okay to wait until September. Let us know when it is scheduled.

From what I understand, they make a small incision between the shoulder blades and take out the nodule. You have to stay in the hospital 12 to 48 hours and then you go home.

The nogule is around an inch. I've had it for over a year with it not getting any bigger so I'm going to ask if I can do it in September. Nothing has spread at all. It's just in the lower right lobe which the doctor said is good.

I've had a surgery this past November (basil cell) and then the kidney stone surgery. I really hope this is the last one.

I googled nogule vs. nodule, and then went in to change something in my post... And my phone changed that word. I thought I'd fixed it... But guess not... But I will make sure it's changed now.

I have spoken to my BIL and he goes in every 6 months to have lungs/nodules checked. He believes it's causing issues now. He's started using an inhaler recently but his doctor is telling him it's not related. He's gone in for second opinion. All doctors seen refuse to remove anything and they haven't done biopsies...just imaging and blood tests. He's been to 2 additional doctors now after the 1st. He's in California.

clo2014: I researched the surgeon. He is affiliated with Lenox Hill Hospital which is a great hospital. I have to see him next week and I'll decide then.

How come the doctors don't want to remove the nodules?

Meeting with the surgeon tomorrow. The nurse was so nice. She told me to stay off of "google" and not to worry about anything.

Surgery is July 18. The surgeon was very comforting. He explained everything to me. He said that according to the pet scan, the mass is contained and not in the lymph nodes. I have to stay in the hospital a day or two and then go home. My cousin will be flying in from Atlanta to help me out. The surgeon thinks it is cancerous but won't know for sure until the biopsy. But he said once it's out, its out and I should be fine.

It's kind of strange with the PET-scans what the MDs can & cannot determine when assessing the results. I recall that a relative's wife who already had surgery to remove malignant groin tumor, then had a PET on head a few years later due to a new growth behind one temple. With PET result in a surgeon decided to cut there, and the growth turned out to be benign. (And the wife lived on for another 30 years into her nineties.) In your case the surgeon might be factoring in your smoker's history so thinks it's best to remove the nodule ASAP while it has clean margins. Good that your cousin can help with the updated procedure scheduling, but I'm sorry more medical "chores" hit you so soon after the kidney issues. / Old Hat

It sounds promising, the surgeon saying once it's out you will be fine. On the other hand, the fact that it is scheduled for July 18, instead of September I guess means he felt you shouldn't wait. That is wonderful that your cousin can fly out to be with you.

Thank you! I'll update after the surgery. I am very scared and have a lot of anxiety right now but it needs to be done. I'm more scared of the pain afterwards. The surgeon said I'll be in some pain afterwards and "winded" but little by little I'll feel better.

Contained is good news as is having it within a short period of time. Tough year for you, but always good that anomalies are found and dealt with. Exhausting. It sounds like you have an amazing cousin to be of help during that time.
I hope you'll get good pain meds 😁👍🏻

I don't think Google's a bad thing when used for resources for questions and clarity. But it can definitely amp anxiety and distress. I have a need to know, but it's a double edged sword through the decision making and confirmation process 😵‍💫
