You should see about going back on steroids until you see your GI. That was a very short course of steroids. I was started on 60 mg and stayed there for a week before dropping 10 mg each subsequent week. I believe I even had a 2 week tapering schedule sometimes (dropping 5-10 mg only every 2 weeks). Steroids are not good long term but they did allow me some relief from the flare. When you’re so severe that you can’t eat or sleep you have to do whatever you can to get better.

went to Dr kyle fisher gastrol yesterday. said we need to hit this hard now. so the plan is stop taking budisone. stop taking the suffer meds. start a regimet of the prednisone again. 10 mg pills take 4 a day for 14 days then taper 3 a day 14 days. 2 a day 14 days. then 1. 1/2 till he says stop. take 1. 50mg imura pill a day. start an iv treatment of infliximab on 7/25. then 8/8 9/5. wats anyone's thoughts on this idk.

Dr. Fisher has given you an excellent plan to get you in remission. We have people on here on this medication & they are in remission. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

I’ve been in remission for 7 years. I have colonoscopies every 2 years and see my dr every 4-6 months and have blood tests to monitor kidneys and liver functions but that’s it.

I think it depends on your type of disease and severity how you are after a complete colectomy. It also depends on the type of surgery you have. There are some people here who have still had problems with inflammation after their colectomy. And had to continue with biologics after. Other people I’m sure are living life after surgery and don’t come to post.

It doesn't sound like you have tried many meds so it's likely too soon to think about surgery. Most people say that they are happy with the surgery who have had it. There are some who still have problems and need to be on meds though. You can do a search on this forum and see their stories.

My last huge flare was in 2018-2019. I was hospitalized for blood and iron transfusions because of the extended blood loss. I started infliximab (Remicade) in 2019. I started seeing improvements pretty quickly and I was able to start living my life again. I still had some mild lingering symptoms and it took almost 2 years until I was in full remissions after several dosage changes. I NEVER want to be that sick again!

After your loading doses of the IV, then your maintenance dose will be an IV every 8 weeks. That level works for a lot of people. There are some of us who had to increase the dose and/ or frequency. I am not thrilled with needing the infusions, but I live a full life as a "normal" person.

If you don't see any improvements at all with infliximab after the loading doses there are LOTS of other meds that could work. The bad part of this disease is that there's no way to know what med will work for each person. What works for 1 may not work for another. My doc says they are working on a test that will be able to determine what class of meds will work the best for each person. They don't have it yet though, so it's trial and error.

Hang in there. I hope the infliximab works quickly for you, but try not to be discouraged if it doesn't. Your doc is going to be your new best friend for a while. And if you have questions there are lots of people here who have been where you are now, so feel free to ask.

postponed i.v treatment. till 8/1 . suposed to be 7/25. insurance wouldn't go with fliximab. so dr had to change it to avsola. and reschedual iv treatment. idk guess we will see. reckon insurance Co. knows wats best for patients

yes called them back to verify avsola it's suposed to be like the inflixmab line of med

checking my chart on line. it's wrote by Dr. reflexes is the med. nurse that called me said avsola. he'll if I know. if I knew all this kind of stuff I'd be working in the drs office. insted of grunting it out in the heat all day. lol

Yes, it's a biosimilar to Remicade, and it should be fine.

We all want to see nice normal poop while taking our Rx med(s), but that doesn't happen quickly. You need to stay hydrated with water and eat reasonably with as nutritionally-balanced a daily diet as you can tolerate. Try having some banana, or steamed sweet potato (yam) made extra moist if you think constipation is starting up. Those items can help to improve the poop quality. But it's not unusual to see a mix of solid waste, liquid, and blood in the toilet bowl while taking Prednisone during a serious flare. Colon inflammation is like having an oozing rash inside so that will affect what you see coming out. Try to stay positive because August is getting closer so you'll be able to get the new medicine pretty soon. *** I agree with the advice CCinPA gave you about dividing your daily dose of Pred, instead of taking it all at once. Taking it with some food that way should also help to calm the rumbling you hear in your stomach. I took my 40 mg Pred by a 10 mg tablet 4 times daily = 1 every 6 hours. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

took the iv treatment yesterday 8/1 no adverse reactions or anything went well 3hrs worth. seem to feel better today. no urgent bathroom runs. seems to be tampering down the last few days. not as much blood in toilet or on paper. do another on the 15th. don't want any false hopes at all this is going to work.thats just let down.we will see after next dose. may still be the prednisone keeping it at bay. Who knows

have you tried some psyllium husk powder? start with 1/2 teaspoon - take it 1 hour after medications because it may affect the way meds get absorbed.

Hi, Rascle-- It seems that you're making progress as long as you watch your daily diet. Steak, spices, and fried foods are hard on an inflamed gut: safer to try baked potato or beef stew well-cooked with potato and carrot pieces. BTW, if you've been working full-time during most of this flare, and you do physical tasks like lifting/transporting, you might need more time off to rest. For your information, in case no one told you so far, UC & Crohn's were included in the Americans With Disabilities Act starting in 2009. Therefore you should be eligible to take disability leave from work if your doctor would recommend that as a help to healing this flare. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)
