Follow-up on Mezera foam - Very strong chemical smell

Hello everyone,

I have been taking Mezera foam for about a month and a half, not every day, and my symptoms are diminishing, very quietly, I have to continue the treatment for a week and 2 times a week for maintenance. I don't feel like I could stop yet, but it's getting better. I was really looking forward to trying the foam as I'd heard good things about it here, I don't know if I'm the only one, but I find the treatment less easy than enemas or suppositories. The foam smells so strong after being inserted, when I go to the toilet, it smells so strong for 2-3 times, even my urine smell extremely strong in the morning. I find that even my bathroom has taken on a bit of the smell that it emerges, a sort of chemical smell ! I'm really motivated to continue the treatment, but it's a bit difficult at times, am I the only one going through this (the smell is a bit embarrassing!) ?

We still can't get it RXed in USA, but my gastroenterologist expressed hope several months ago that it will become available here before too much longer. Great that the foam helps you to feel better! I don't recall any odor issue being reported on the forum by past users abroad. Maybe you could mitigate that with lube applied to the applicator prior to insert (?) Then use a bit of Oust or Lysol spray in bathroom, or even perfume. I share your distress over bad odors, but the key concern should be whether or not the foam successfully treats your gut symptoms w/o causing harmful side effects to body parts. I would use it daily. My assumption is that the foam is 1g dosage, so not high for treatment.

Re the odour...do you have to shake the container before use?

Did you use the foam nightly initially?

- I shake it well and Quincy you're right it's 1 g dosage ! ;
- I started to use parfum and it helps a lot smile)))

Can you get a hold of poo-pouring spray? It’s an oil based spray you spray into the toilet before a BM. The oil stays on top of the toilet water and hides the odor. It comes in different scents from essential oils.

Joan...i use the 4g liquid mesalamine. I dont know if canada has the foam, but I won't go that low re dosage.
Hope no issues with it otherwise for you.
Just FYI that you can use the 1g 2x daily

Amazon has poo-pourri. Also target. Costco sometimes. They even have a lipstick-size one that you can carry in your purse. Just realized that my first entry got spell-checked.

Thanks for your help everyone...Despite the annoying smell, I'm really starting to feel better. I pray for a loooonnnnggggg symptom-free period.

Hoping you achieve remission soon; definitely keep us posted. Some yrs back there was a male UCer in Scotland posting here about his teen son's experiences treating UC. The son finally achieved remission after adding mesalamine foam to his oral med regimen, apparently because the foam healed his most stubborn spot of inflamation low down. He was really happy to report that to us! / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

It's interesting because that's kind of what's happening to me, I have a very specific spot very low down that won't heal. I can feel it coming with the foam. Thanks for sharing smile
