In flare terms and pattern, it means the inflammation is receding and is limited in the rectum (considering healing from where you were). Is it "normal" flare pattern...yes. Signals from that area slow what's above. Hence, the constipation.
So, what to do now...rectal meds. I suggest retention enemas at 4g. Increase fibre sources that will soften stool and increase peristalsis (you sould also ass a stool softener such as docusate sodium) It'll be more comfortable re passage through an inflamed rectum. I always increased vitamin C...
It is possible you have a hemorrhoid as well, but initially assume and treat flare symptoms.
Don't ignore this symptom, however. Remember it as well for future reference... that it will also be a symptom of early flaring in the future...before the more obvious loose, diarrhea, etc...and treat early.
Hang tough...keep us updated on how you're doing.

Thanks for recognising it. I see it as how a thermometer works with the bulb being the rectum 😆.
Thin stool also shows inflammation. Whatever you need to re intake to help soften is good.
The 4g mesalamine enemas will be better than the suppositories...but you can use the supps during the day and enemas at night to give more consistent mediation.
keep us updated.

Midge, I can relate to the constipation. The last 2 weeks I don't go for 3 days, then I pass smelly mucus and gas. I then have 2 days of X Large #6 bms. Cramps and bloating are very uncomfortable 😫 It's been my pattern for a month now. The month before...different story. Still await Colonoscopy next month.
Q--I never thought that this could be receding inflammation. I think I will try to get a perscript
ion for some rectal enemas.
I have been feeling and hearing gurgling all throughout my colon...it's almost like the mucus is pulsing up and then down to the rectum, if I fart, it's a shart! What is it??? 🤪
Midge...I'm glad you are feeling better....Sassy

Yep, seems right that it's a shart...and never trust a fart when flaring! I definitely suggest you get on the retention 4g enemas asap.

Absolutely - many here have said one of the best things about
remission is being able to fart freely!
